Every tutorial starts with ‘prep your skin’ and I used to skip it like an idiot. The week I finally nailed this step, my foundation stopped separating by noon for the first time ever.

I owned four wrong-shade foundations before I figured out undertones. That was an expensive and orange-looking month of my life.

Dark circles run in my family. The week I learned the color-correcting triangle method, my mom called me on FaceTime and asked if I'd been sleeping better. I hadn't.

Week four was blending and I went through half a pack of makeup wipes. Turns out the problem was my brushes, not my hands.

Winged liner week almost broke me. I did seven days of practice wings and by day five something clicked — turns out the angle of your head matters more than the angle of the pen.

Overlining week was humbling. I looked like a clown for three days before I figured out you only overline the center of your cupid's bow and bottom lip. Nobody needs to learn this the hard way like I did.

Before setting week, my makeup melted off during a two-hour brunch. After learning the sandwich method — powder, spray, powder — my face survived a July music festival.

Contour week terrified me because every tutorial looked like stage makeup. Turns out the trick is using something two shades darker max and blending upward, not downward.

Nobody told me brows were the most important part of a face until I accidentally over-plucked the week before a work presentation. Learning to fill them properly saved me from looking permanently surprised.

Lash week taught me that wiggling the wand at the root changes everything. Five years of just swiping up and wondering why my lashes looked clumpy — the root wiggle was the missing piece.

The final week was combining every technique into one cohesive face. Took me 45 minutes the first day and 15 by Friday. Now my morning routine is faster than my roommate's and she only wears chapstick.
