Every year my family opens the ornament box and nobody remembers where half of them came from. I started replacing the generic ones with pieces that spark an actual conversation when someone hangs them on the tree.

My mom's kitchen at Christmas smelled like cinnamon and had all these weird old gadgets. I've been tracking down the same kind of stuff so my place feels like that too.

Started collecting old editions of Christmas books after I realized the new printings just don't hit the same way. Something about holding a copy from the 1940s makes reading it aloud feel different.

Started playing old Christmas records during dinner last year instead of a Spotify playlist. Nobody touched their phone for two hours. The crackle and pops add something a streaming algorithm can't.

Replaced our drugstore stockings with handmade vintage ones three years ago and honestly it changed the whole look of our fireplace. Guests always walk over and touch them because the fabric feels so different.

Got tired of buying the same Target decorations as everyone on my block. These older pieces have dents and patina and they look ten times better than anything shrink-wrapped.

Realized last year that a vintage brooch pinned to a wrapped gift doubles as the present AND the decoration. Started collecting holiday-themed pieces specifically for this move.

Nothing ruins a thoughtful vintage gift faster than wrapping it in generic paper from a roll. Started hunting for old wrapping supplies and the presentation alone gets a reaction now.
