A few of the books I am most excited to read this year! Some are TikTok faves, and some I have stumbled across in my many trips to the bookshop, however all are books I'm hyped to read and wish more people had heard about!
I love books that detail different family dymanics and this combines one daughters efforts to change her family legacy with 3 generations of family secrets!
Memphis: A Novel
Another family drama book that is said to be funny, wise and thought provoking. It is also set in Ireland and I am excited to see and begin to understand elements of Irish culture that I dont know about!
The Bee Sting
I'm not a huge crime thriller reader however when the Main character is found covered in her best friends blood and a true crime podcast looks into it- it instantly went on my list!
Listen for the Lie: A Novel
I love a good historical fiction- this being set in 1849 Edinburgh was enough to catch my eye but with a little murder mystery as well, I was intrigued. It is book 2 in a series so maybe we need to start with book 1 (The way of all flesh)
The Art of Dying
I love a good romance and having grown up watching Strictly- this seemed like a must read!
The Paris Affair: A Romantic Escape
Greek mythology retellings and adaptations are my guilty pleasure so a book focused on the women often overlooked in the myth of Thesus and the minotaur - straight in my basket!
Ariadne
I have seen this all over Tiktok and it has come recommended by so many of my friends - Dragons, Romance and revenge?!
Dragonfall
Now I am a WW2 history nerd and was devastated that I couldn't get into the film- but finding out that it was a book, which is hailed as the greatest war novel of all time? How can I not?
All Quiet on the Western Front
Set in 1970's mexico following a daydreaming secretary and a rock ‘n’ roll loving enforcer whilst they try to search for a missing woman. This isnt my usual read but 2025 is all about branching out!
Velvet Was the Night
This is definitely going to be a heavy read as you learn about the efforts of the Allied codebreakers in uncovering the horrors of the holocaust
The Holocaust Codes: Decrypting the Final Solution
Again with the history- a fictional retelling of a true story! Rome, Romance and scandalous revelations.
Costanza: Striking Fictional Retelling
A tale of love, academia and complex relationships- it seems to have mixed reviews so I will keep you updated!
Wife
Set in Vienna- this LGBTQ+ historical fiction follows separate characters who seem to find family together
All of You Every Single One
In a divided cyrpus- two teenages fall in love and decades later a botanist begind to uncover their history. Having just visited cyrus, with very limited knowledge of the history, i was intriuged.
The Island of Missing Trees
I am trying to read more non-fiction in 2025, and my go to has always been feminist literature- and a book explaining this history and evolution of slut shaming seemed a good place to start
Sluts: The Truth about Slutshaming
realising the extent of how much medicine and procedures are male centric was eye opening so Im excited to read this!
This Won't Hurt: How Medicine Fails Women ...
Ancient Egypt is a HUGE interest of mine however my focus of mythology has always been Greek/Roman or Scottish so this seems like the perfect way to branch out!
Egyptian Mythology: A Traveler's Guide
With so many heavy or dark books on my 2025 list- a small town, slow burning rom-com is a perfect break
When in Rome: A Novel
I saw it, I brought it, it went into the never ending pile of ‘books i want to read’
In a Thousand Different Ways by Cecelia Ahern
I dont understand how i have made it this far and not read this if i am honest with you.
Lights Out by Navessa Allen
Loved the show, controversially love the new season…havent actually read the book.
The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski, Danusia Stok
Another impulse purchase which proceed to sit on my self
Please Don't Go by E Salvador
Full disclosure I didn't know this a book, let alone a series so 100% is one for me to read
The Complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Boxset by Douglas Adams | Waterstones
I cant wait to read this, the review are insane and if im judging a book by its cover- its going to be brilliant
